Do you agree??

Here is a little research regarding pet vaccines that I did last semester for my English class. It  was one of my favorite papers, it is really informative. I had a lot of fun doing it and I learned a lot. I know it is a little long, but totally worth reading.  Hope yall like it!!

Killing Our Pets

Texas pet owners take their pets to the vet every year or every six months to get their vaccines without realizing what is causing to their pets body. Pet owners just follow the veterinarian’s orders without questioning or researching what is going in to the little animals’ body, and this can affect them in the log-tem. According to the article “Pets Don’t Need Shots Every Year: Experts say annual vaccines waste money, can be risky” by Leigh Hooper from Huston Chronical Medical Writer she states how veterinarians refuse to inform pet owners of the chronic diseases because of the profit of pet vaccines. This indicates that some veterinarians do not care what happens to pets, they just want the money. Vaccines are affecting Texas pet’s health and it should be stopped because they are causing pets to develop chronic diseases such as cancer, skin allergies and it affects their immune system.

Now a days the state of Texas have laws that protect pets, this indicates that Texas cares for them. But what are veterinarians doing for pets? First time pet owners, do not realize what vaccines are doing to pets. Many people just follow the veterinarians order, by taking their pet  every six months or every year to get their vaccines. The article “Vaccinosis: Health Hazard of Routine Vaccination” from Shirley’s Wellness Café: Holistic Health for People and Animals by Dr. Donna Starita Mehan (Mehan et al.) states that “Annual revaccination provides no benefit and may increase the risk of adverse reactions” (Mehan 1 Vet Med3:No.3, 233-254,1998). Instead of protecting pets, pet owners are making them suffer. Furthermore, pet owners assume they are protecting their pet by vaccinating them, but in fact it is the contrary.  Dr. Charles E Loops DVM  states that  “Veterinarians and animal guardians have to come to realise that they are not protecting animals from disease by annual vaccinations, but in fact, are destroying the vitality and immune systems of these same animals they love and care for”(Mehan et al. Loops 3).  The minimum duration for cats and dogs rabies vaccine is three years, and pet owners are vaccinating their pets every year (Hooper 32). Annual vaccines are affecting pets health, even killing them because of per owners and veterinarians.

Vaccines are affecting pet’s immune system and this can lead to chronic diseases. One of the most common symptoms is skin allergies. Pet owners might think it is normal for pets to excessively lick their paws, or scratch their body, but this can be a vaccine side effect, which leads to a chronic disease, such as chronic discharge and itching. Some vaccines side effects happen seconds after the pet takes the vaccine. According to the article “Vaccinosis: Health Hazard of Routine Vaccination” Dr. Dee Blanco, D.V.M states “We see a lot of epilepsy/seizure, often after a rabies vaccination” this indicated that it takes seconds for pets to develop a disease after their shot. (Blanco 4). Furthermore, pets also develop behavior problems by becoming fearful or aggressive depending on the pet, because of the amount of medication veterinarians are putting in pet’s bodies. Cancer is another chronic decease pets are developing after their vaccines. According to “Vaccinosis: Health Hazard of Routine Vaccination” Dr. Christina Chambreau, DVM  states that “A great number of studies have shown that when you vaccinate an animal, the body's inflammatory cytokines not only increase dramatically, but so do the brain's inflammatory chemicals”( Chambreau 10). Studies have shown that many cats have developed terminal cancer because of vaccines. According to the article “Science of Vaccine Damage” by Catherine O’Driscoll  she states that “The American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) Vaccine-Associated Feline Sarcoma Task Force initiated several studies to find out why 160,000 cats each year in the USA develop terminal cancer at their vaccine injection sites.(3)”, this is another prove that annual pet vaccines are really dangerous (O’Driscoll 7).

In the article “Pet Vaccinations” by Dr. Karen Becker, DVM, NMD, Becker states that many pet owners when adopt or buy a pet they receive a vaccination schedule, which makes the owner automatically assume they have to follow the schedule (Becker 1). Veterinarians are not informing pet owners about the risks of vaccines. The article “SHORT-TERM NEGATIVE EFFECTS OF VACCINATION CAMPAIGNS AGAINST MYXOMATOSIS AND VIRAL HEMORRHAGIC DISEASE (VHD) ON THE SURVIVAL OF EUROPEAN WILD RABBITS” by Carlos Calvete, Rosa Estrada, Juan J. Oscar, Javier Lucientes and Rafael Villafuentes, talks about a particular study they made with wild rabbits. The doctors tested adult and young rabbits by vaccinating them, and the results were what follows  “While no effect was observed on survival of adults rabbits, young and sub adult rabbits (P,0.001) had higher mortality rates during the first week after handling than in the subsequent 3 weeks”(Calvete 1). The lack of information about vaccines is dramatically affecting our pet’s health by putting their lives in danger and developing chronic diseases.

Pet owners are trusting veterinarians to take care of their best friend, but why are they doing this to them? Money is one of the main reasons why veterinarians are prescribing annual vaccines. Pet owners are spending a lot of money on pet vaccines that pets do not even need. Veterinarians do not inform pet owner about the side effects or how often they need the vaccine, because they make a profit out of it. The article “Pets Don’t Need Shots Every Year: Experts say annual vaccines waste money, can be risky” by Leigh Hooper from Huston Chronical Medical Writer state that “The Texas Department of Health is holding public hearings to consider changing the yearly rabies shot requirement to once every three years” ( Hooper 13) Many universities in Texas started teaching veterinary students that vaccines should be given to pets every three years. This is affecting the older generation of veterinarians by causing them to lose money. They rather give the pet a vaccine than just a yearly exam because they make more profit. According to Hooper ,Bob Rogers, a veterinary who has already started recommending pet vaccines every three years stated  that "Veterinarians are charging customers $36 million a year for vaccinations that are not necessary” (Hooper 4). Veterinarians fear that changing vaccines schedule is going to reduce their revenue and yearly exams will not give them enough profit (Hooper 13).

Pets are being victims because of pet owners’ lack of information on vaccines. Like humans pets also need vaccines, but not as often as the veterinarians are prescribing them. Pets can not communicate like humans do, for that reason pet owners need to pay more attention to their behavior. The state of Texas should pass a law that requires veterinarians to inform pet owners about the risk of vaccines. Also make it against the law to vaccinate pets every year, and consider it animal cruelty. Pets are asking pet owners to take care of them and love them; they should not have to develop a disease because of veterinarian’s profit or owner’s lack of information.
